2017 – Vik, Iceland.
Photographer Danny Head would describe himself as a cautious person and thought he was standing in a relatively safe spot on the beach, but he and another photographer were soon overwhelmed by a rogue wave. Totally submerged, he was saved only by clinging to his tripod that he had anchored deep into the volcanic sand. He came up sputtering, having avoided being carried out to sea. The tripod was broken into pieces but a lone sd card was salvageable and this was the last image.
If a picture is worth 1,000 words, then the embedded foundational themes are life, death and “in search of perfect light.”
We’re thrilled to feature Mr. Danny Head as our first SoulFine artist. He didn’t plan to be an artist. He assumed he’d go into the automotive business like his father.
Known for his landscapes of streams, back roads and forests, his photography is calming and often people state that they think about their childhood when they see his work. It seems introspective, lonely and peace filled.
At 66, he picks up info and tricks of the trade from YouTube and never feels intimidated shooting alongside famous photographers. He’s self-taught.
